The Arts Facet of the Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is dedicated to promoting cultural enrichment and increasing art engagement throughout Howard County. Since 1989, the chapter has hosted numerous cultural arts events, including the highly anticipated annual Peabody Student Concert, which features classical, jazz, and gospel performances by Black students and alumni of the world-renowned Peabody Conservatory of Music. In partnership with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, this standing-room-only event provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and support young artists of color. The facet’s mission is to encourage appreciation for the arts, empower artists to thrive globally, and collaborate with local museums, symphonies, arts councils, and educational institutions to highlight and uplift diverse artistic contributions.
The Health and Human Services Facet is dedicated to addressing the persistent health disparities that impact Black communities by promoting education, advocacy, and access to vital health resources. Through strategic partnerships and impactful programs, the Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated works to foster healthier lifestyles, raise awareness about chronic diseases, and support mental and emotional well-being. From initiatives tackling cancer disparities and childhood obesity to resilience-building and mental health summits, our efforts aim to empower individuals and create lasting health improvements within our communities.
The International Trends Facet is dedicated to expanding the global reach of The Links, Incorporated by addressing the educational, health, and cultural needs of people of African descent worldwide. Through strategic initiatives and partnerships, the facet fosters sustainable impact by supporting key programs such as the School for the Blind in Liberia, teacher training efforts, and resource donations to underserved communities. Locally, the Columbia (MD) Chapter advances global awareness through initiatives that promote mental health, wellness, and educational empowerment, ensuring a holistic approach to international service and advocacy.
The National Trends and Services Facet is dedicated to addressing the social inequities that persist in Black communities across the United States. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, the facet works to eliminate disparities in economic empowerment, health, and social justice. By fostering advocacy, education, and direct community support, the Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated empowers individuals through voter engagement efforts, food insecurity programs, and essential resource distribution. Our commitment to service creates meaningful linkages that drive lasting change and uplift our communities.
The Services to Youth Facet of the Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is dedicated to empowering exceptional African American students in Howard County by providing scholarships and ongoing support to help them achieve their academic and professional aspirations. For over 20 years, the chapter has awarded scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 to graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education at historically Black colleges and universities, community colleges, and other four-year institutions. Beyond financial assistance, the chapter offers continuous mentoring and career coaching to ensure students' long-term success.
