The Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was chartered in June 1975 and has grown to its current membership of 58 members. The Chapter is dedicated to purposeful service and has sponsored many activities over the past 44 years to enhance the quality of life in the Howard County community and beyond.

Scholarship Award

The Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated aims to support exceptional students in their pursuit of higher education and empower these future leaders to achieve their academic and professional goals.
For over 20 years, the Chapter has awarded scholarships to assist African American graduating high school seniors residing in Howard County in pursuing post-secondary education at historically Black colleges and universities, community college, and other 4-year academic institutions. These scholarship awards range from $2,500 - $10,000. In addition to financial awards, the chapter also provides on-going mentoring and career coaching support to each recipient throughout their time in college.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Must be a resident of Howard County, Maryland
  • Must be a high school student of African American descent graduating by June 2025.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student at a 2 or 4-year college or university in the fall of 2025.

Information Required

  • Completed and signed application
  • Two (2) Letters of recommendation
  • Current high school transcript  
  • Recent photograph (head shot)
  • Release signed by parent and by applicant
  • Two completed essays (each 500 words or less)
  • Resume, including community service, school activities, employment, awards and honors
